PassTheBatonThe Club has been invited to compete in the upcoming Parkdale Gift which is being held at the Gerry Green Reserve in Parkdale this coming Saturday afternoon (2nd Feb) and into the evening. We have organised for 4 runners to represent the Club in the 4 x 200m relay race which will be run at around 7:30pm. In order to support our runners, we'd love as many people down there as possible to help cheer them on and support the event.

2018 AGM New Board

In an historic moment at last night's Annual General Meeting, the members elected Louise Prichard Nicholson as the Club President and Board Chair thus making Lou the first woman to take the helm of the Club. No stranger to Club management, Lou, a 'junior parent', has been a regular committee member and most recently honourary Chief Executive Officer of the Club. Supporting Lou on the Board are returning members Peter Davis (Club Secretary), Drew Boaden (Finance Director), Shaun Napier (House Director) and Mick Zakic (President, SMJFL). Paul O'Toole formally joins the Board as President, VAFA having taken over the role from Mal Garside at the conclusion of 2018 home and away season.  Also joining the Board is Stephen Watson who has been a long term contributor in VAFA football operations. The new Board thanked out going President Gerald Stutterd who will remain on the Board with a focus on sponsorship. Full details of all other elected positions to follow.

agm2A reminder that the Club's Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday, 21 January 2019, commencing 7.30pm at the clubrooms at Remo St, Mentone.

All Mennie 01The Club is saddened to hear and report of the passing of Allan Mennie, a Life Member and Hall of Fame member and sends its condolences to the family.

Allan commenced as a Mentone Football Club junior and won the Thirds Best and Fairest award in 1952 after playing in three consecutive premierships for that team.

Allan played eight games with St Kilda in 1955 and 1956 and enjoyed success with Moorabbin in the VFA before re-joining Mentone.

In his long career, Allan was regarded as one of the Federal League’s outstanding wingmen. Clever and skilful, he won the club's Senior Best and Fairest in 1960 and was awarded Life Membership in 1964. Allan also coached the Thirds from 1960 to 1965, including premierships in 1960 and 1961.

Allan had an outstanding football career and was the coaching mentor of a number of young men who went onto to achieve senior premiership success in 1967 and 1968 and/or who furthered their careers in the VFL including Barry Breen pictured to Allan's left in the team pic. Allan was also an outstanding cricketer playing for the Mentone Cricket Club.

Rest in peace.

Allan Mennie Thirds
