The club has been in regular meetings with Kingston City Council since September and an architect has been appointed. Ideas and designs are being worked through with a view to have them completed for members to see around March 2017. At that point, there will be fine-tuning and a final report to Council between May and July with the project going out to tender in August. We are hoping for a start date in September 2017. The club has been pushing for a sporting and community hub to be built in stages so that other user groups such as Mentone Mustangs Basketball Club and Mentone Clovers Netball Club can secure a home base of an office and merchandising area and later on have two multipurpose courts built on the Remo Street land behind the clubrooms. Mark Tyquin, Shaun Napier, Fiona Lawrence and Peter Davis are heading up this sub-committee. An acknowledgement should be made to the Premier Daniel Andrews who backed us with a $1 million dollar commitment and Tim Richardson MP for his advocacy.
The club is close to choosing the size of the screens and the supplier however we are still a bit short for our preferred options and the club needs a pre-Christmas gift from each family and the bonus for you is that its 100% Tax Deductable. The club is reaching out to all families to donate $25 and make these projects a success. If can afford a larger donation, much appreciated. Tax deductable donations can be made with a few clicks at our webpage on the Australian Sports Foundation website:- https://asf.org.au/make-donation/electronic-scoreboards-project/ These video screens will allow us to showcase both our club and players on match days and open up a new sponsorship stream. The club is humbled by the monetary gift of Peter Kerr who passed away on 7 January 2016 and the strong support of Isaacs MP Mark Dreyfus and Hotham MP Clare O'Neil in providing the bulk of these monies. The George Alexander Best Club Person Award winners for 2016 are Merv Kane and Katrina Wieringa. Merv took on a myriad of jobs throughout 2016 including our major Toyota Yaris Car Raffle supplied by Mentone Toyota and Katrina was the backbone of the accounting side of the Club allocating all the financial ins and outs into the right columns. The award is named after St Bedes OCFC Past President George Alexander who was President in the 1970's for 5 years and tragically passed away too young at age 35.
