We are getting close but need small donations to reach our target. Can you help out with a tax deductable $25? Federal funding grants under the Stronger Communities Program of $20,000 supported by Isaacs MP Mark Dreyfus for the Mentone Recreation Reserve and $16,000 supported by Hotham MP Clare OâÂÂNeil for the Southern Road Reserve has been approved and will shortly be in the club accounts. The total cost of both projects is around $124,000 and we are currently $8,000 short with the deadline looming for lodgment of building permits so construction can be completed for the commencement of the 2017 footy season. Your small donation will go a long way to completing these projects. Tax deductable donations can be made with a few clicks at our webpage on the Australian Sports Foundation website:- https://asf.org.au/make-donation/electronic-scoreboards-project/ These video screens will allow us to showcase our club and players on match days. Your donation would be greatly appreciated by both. For further details, call Club Secretary Peter Davis on 0417 357 634
Congratulations to our 2006, 2007 and 2008 Premiership Coach Luke Beveridge for his Western Bulldogs team's Preliminary Final win against Greater Western Sydney. In what could be described as a 4 quarter nail biting game of chess cheered on by all Victorians, the doggies stepped up when it mattered and it is a testament to his leadership style. All at Tigerland are backing Bevo and his Bulldogs in the AFL Grand Final.
St Bedes/Mentone Tigers Under 15 player Angie Andunga has become our first female selected to represent Victoria in the AFL Under 16 Girls All Nations Interstate Championships 26 - 29 September in Shepparton. Over the past two months, girls in this age bracket who were born overseas were invited to training at several sites around Melbourne then trials at Punt Road Oval and a two day hit out in Healesville. From these training sessions a team has been selected by coaching duo David Rodan and Aaron Davey who are heading up this program and the AFL Indigenous Interstate Championships which are also being played in Shepparton 26 - 29 September. Matches kick off on Monday with the Vics up against Western Australia and Queensland, Northern Territory and South Australia on Tuesday and a combined NSW/ ACT on Wednesday. Best two teams play off in the final on Thursday morning. Congratulations Angie. The club is keen to expand junior girls teams in the SMJFL and a Senior Women's team in the VAFA in 2017.
