The VAFA has introduced a Third 18 competition for trial in season 2010. Compulsory for all A section (now known as "Premier") clubs, the thirds will provide a genuine 18 round competition against quality opposition. While the draw is yet to be published, it is expected that the Thirds will usually play as curtain raisers to the Under 19 Premier matches with the possibility of featuring in triple headers. Excited and enthusiastic about this new direction, past player Pat Delahunty has been appointed as Thirds Coach and is working with Owen and the coaching staff on skills and fitness.
